Anjali Bhagwat and Heena Sidhu are not the first to have a bad travel experience with Jet Airways. But unlike the sportspersons who do not appear to have been given any compensation, a consumer court in Chandigarh recently ordered the airline to compensate a man whose flight was arbitrarily cancelled.The district consumer disputes redressal forum of Chandigarh has ordered Jet Airways to pay Rs. 50,000 as compensation to RK Sharma, who was offloaded from a Jet Airways flight without giving any reason, in May last year.The forum had said, “The airline has not been able to place on record the report of the medical department where the complainant was declared not physically fit to travel. Thus, the act of the airline in offloading the consumer from the flight after issuance of the boarding pass amounts to deficiency in service.”The compensation has to be paid within 45 days with nine per cent interest.Jet Airways in its statement said that Sharma informed them of his recent angiography only after he received his boarding pass. The medical staff found him physically unfit to travel and so he had to be offloaded.Recently Indian shooters Bhagwat and Sidhu faced a harrowing experience with Jet Airways when they were denied permission to carry their shooting equipments on a flight stating ‘incomplete documents’.
