It's a hoax: There is no 'Dial 1098' scheme to distribute excess food to needy children

Written by : Soumya Chatterjee

For the past couple of weeks, a message is being circulated on popular messaging platform WhatsApp by groups and individuals saying that in a PM Modi initiative, CHILDLINE India Foundation will collect excess food from doorsteps and help distribute them to needy children.

Although, the mentioned initiative is noble, it is non-existential and the message is just a hoax like many other doing the rounds.

But as some people who fell in to believe the hoax message must have called the CHILDLINE and the NGO had to put up an advisory on their website

The Hoax message:

“Good News By PM Modi-If you have a function/party at your home and when you see lots of food getting wasted, Pls don't hesitate to call 1098 (IN INDIA ONLY) - child help line. They will come and collect the food...Please circulate this message which can help feed many children. PLEASE DONT BREAK THIS CHAIN, Helping hands are better than Praying Lips"Copy n paste takes only few seconds...”

CHILDLINE India Foundation is a well recognized NGO working for protection of child rights by running toll-free helpline for street children in distress since 1996.

Warning : We understand there is a chain mail circulating that says - one should call up 1098 to pick up left over food after a party etc so that it is not wasted. This is not true. We are India 's only and most widespread Children's phone emergency outreach service (1098) for children in need of care and protection. We do not pick up food or distribute food. This mail was not initiated by us, kindly do not circulate it. Your cooperation is appreciated.”

So as a responsible citizen you can do your bit and share this clarification too and stop people from being misinformed.
