Geneva: A United Nations (UN) investigator has said that fighters from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) are on their way to being added to a list of war crimes suspects in Syria.

"They are good candidates for the list," chief UN investigator Paulo Pinheiro said, referring to public executions and crucifixions carried out by the militant group. The confidential list was shared with the UN Security Council (UNSC) in New York and reporters for the first time on Friday.

“I can assure you that we are collecting information on perpetrators from all sides including non-state armed groups and ISIS,” Mr. Pinheiro who is leading an independent UN commission on Syrian war crimes said.

The investigator said that in addition to the ISIS, heads of Syrian intelligence branches and detention facilities, military commanders who target civilians, airports and armed groups involved in attacking and displacing civilians were being investigated.
