India on Thursday sought the deportation of Vijay Mallya whose passport has been revoked and who also has a non-bailable arrest warrant against him.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, “The ministry has written to the High Commission of the UK in Delhi requesting the deportation of Vijay Mallya so that his presence can be secured for investigations against him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002.”

“Mallya’s passport was revoked last week in view of these (PMLA) investigations and non-bailable warrant issued by the Special Judge, Mumbai. We will continue to pursue this matter with UK authorities,” Swarup added.

Mallya had left India on March 2. He refused to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on three occasions when summoned between March 10 and April 2.

Mallya is charged with siphoning off a portion of money involving IDBI loan of Rs 950 crore, which he had borrowed for Kingfisher Airlines.

ED has said it will seek an Interpol arrest warrant against Mallya based on a non-bailable warrant issued by a Mumbai court in a money laundering case.
