The News Minute | October 7, 2014 | 05:38 pm IST Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Tuesday called for people in the state to maintain peace soon after the Karnataka High Court rejected former CM J Jayalalithaa's bail plea."Do not cause hardship to public. Do not indulge in closures and strikes. Jayalalithaa doesn't like these. Keeping calm is the only way to express love for Jayalalithaa", said Panneerselvam, who swore in as CM of Tamil Nadu two days following Jayalalithaa's conviction. Considered one of Amma's closest aides, Panneerselvam also said that the party would strive to fulfill Jayalalithaa's vision 2023, a 68 page document released by Jayalalithaa when she was CM, ambitiously aimed at development in the state. In what is likely a reference to DMK and PMK's allegations that the widespread protests in Tamil Nadu against Jayalalithaa's conviction were in fact sponsored by the state government, the CM asserted that "Law and order is peaceful. Not right to link state government for people's voluntary emotional outbursts"J Jayalalithaa was convicted in a disproportionate assets case on September 27 by the Karnataka High Court and has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment.
