The News Minute| January 27, 2015| 1.30 pm ISTThe Tamil Nadu unit of the Congress last Friday had issued a show cause notice to Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Minister P Chidambaram, asking the leader to explain a meeting he had called of Congress workers and some remarks he allegedly made against the party and veteran leader Kamaraj.Replying to the notice sent by TNCC President EVKS Elangovan, Karti Chidambaram has said that the TNCC had no powers to send him a notice, and he was accountable to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) only. The TNCC had called Karti Chidambaram's move to form a new initiative termed 'G67' involving party workers, as "anti-party activity and groupism." Karti has been accused by the Congress of inviting party workers from all constituencies to be part of this meeting, in which he also made statements against the top party leadership.Karti's reply says: "On the day the G67 meeting happened, I have not used the symbol or flag of the Indian National Congress. I did not invite the media to the programme. Thus you could not have got to know of what I spoke at that event through the media. If you had understood what I had spoken completely, you will understand that I had not criticised the party's leadership or policies, there is no basis for you to ask a clarification or for me to give an explanation.I am an All India Congress Committee member. Only AICC's disciplinary committee has the powers to seek an explanation or take disciplinary action again me.If you refer the complaints against me to AICC disciplinary committee and if they ask me for an explanation, I am prepared to explain to them."Read- Karti Chidambaram's G67 speech has some lessons for Congress and BJP tooWith this reply, Karti Chidambaram has made it clear that he is unwilling to accept EVKS Elangovan's diktats or leadership.Tweet
