Human Rights lawyer arrested for blocking footpath

The News Minute| September 4, 2014| 05.15 pmA human rights lawyer was arrested by police in the United States, allegedly for blocking the footpath.Gothamist reported that Chaumtoli Huq was arrested as she waited for her children and husband to use the bathroom outside a restaurant, when the police asked her to move. She was in Times Square, where a pro-Palestine rally was in progress. The police reportedly took her away in handcuffs even before her husband and children could come out of the restaurant. She later files a case in a Manhattan court, accusing the police of using unreasonable and unprovoked force, and also said that their behaviour was "characteristic of a pattern andpractice of the NYPD in aggressive overpolicing of people of colour and persons lawfully exercising their First Amendment rights".
