These are the prices of food items sold in the canteens in the Parliament. However, the cost of the raw materials used to prepare the dishes are Rs 68.74, Rs 52.12, 20.22 and 53.9 respectively. Response to an RTI query has revealed that food served in the Parliament canteens is sold at heavily subsidised rates- almost one-tenth of the cost of raw materials used to prepare the items. Image courtesy: Not that Mehta/TwitterThe RTI plea also revealed that the canteens in Parliament got a total subsidy of Rs 60 crore in the last five years, states an IBN report. The report also quotes the RTI activist who filed the query as saying, "They tell others to give up on subsidies, but Parliament canteen gets heavy subsidy. The government should end this." Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has said that though he didn't deny it as minister, he would discuss the issue and try and reach a solution.
