After receiving much flak on mainstream and social media over his silence over a man being killed over suspicion of consuming beef by a mob, PM Modi spoke for the first time regarding the incident on Thursday.

1. "I want to tell the people that because of politics and for petty gains, people are making irresponsible statements. I appeal to citizens not to take them seriously. Even if Narendra Modi himself says something like that, don't listen to him.”

2. “We should decide whether Hindus have to fight against Muslims or against poverty and I said the same to Muslims."

3. "I want to tell the people that because of politics and for petty gains, people are making irresponsible statements. I appeal to citizens not to take them seriously.”

4. “If you want to listen, then hear the speech of President Pranab Mukherjee yesterday. There can be no bigger thought that that. President has shown us the way, and we have to walk on that path.”

5. “I had said just after the bomb blasts that Hindus and Muslims should unite to fight against poverty. I requested everyone to go back to their homes peacefully and not let any reaction take place," speaking about the situation following the bomb blasts held in his rally in Patna before the general elections.
