After Anil Kumble was appointed coach of the Indian cricket team, the incumbent coach Ravi Shastri was left disappointed as he was looking to continue the good work he had done with the Indian team. Kumble talked about Shastri among other things in his press conference on Wednesday in a series of tweets.

1. Kumble said it doesn't matter whether he or Ravi Shastri is the coach. “I called up Ravi Shastri, he has done a fantastic job, we all want the team to do well. I am pretty close to the modern game and I can convey my message to a youngster.”

2. He felt that Test cricket is very important and even the players agreed with him. “We want people to watch and love the game. Whatever it takes to popularise Test cricket, we are ready for that. So is BCCI, I know the responsibilities and the expectations on an Indian coach.”

3. He said that the team was talented and he along with his support staff will stay in the background and work hard. “Nice to see the mix of experience and youth in this side. Captain takes all the calls on the field, I will only assist in strategy. Captain is in charge, coach gives inputs, includes every player.”

4. Looking forward to his first assignment in the West Indies, he said that there are a few players who have played there which will stand the team in good stead. Besides, he will also bring in his own experience. “Ishant Sharma will lead the bowlers in the West Indies. Taking a look at the bowlers, getting to know what their needs are. We are considering options for bowling coach but right now I think I can get closer to the bowlers.”

5. Kumble also spoke with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. He said, “I am looking forward to working with them. Today was only a welcome meeting with team. Next 5-6 days will be more welcoming. Looking forward.”
