Fan breaches security at Eden Gardens, runs to CSK dugout to touch Dhoni’s feet

It is no secret that MS Dhoni is one of the most-beloved sportspersons in India right now. His list of accomplishments in the national cricket team has earned him a god-like status in the country.

The fact that he has retired from Test cricket and has stepped down from captaincy in the limited overs format has made no difference to the crowds. Even if he is the captain of the opposition team, the crowds go wild and chants of Dhoni’s name rent the air. Arguably, he is the reason why the Chennai Super Kings is received so warmly across the country.

However, in this year’s Indian Premier League, a fan of Dhoni took it to the next level on Thursday as Chennai Super Kings took on Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.

A video uploaded on the official Instagram page of the IPL T20 tournament showed a fan running into the dugout just to touch the feet off the former captain of the Indian Cricket Team.

The incident occurred between the 11th and 12th over of the CSK innings. Dhoni was having a discussion with coach Michael Hussey when a fan runs up to him and touches his feet. Dhoni reacted in a characteristically cool manner by simply patting the young man on his back as security guards escort him away.

This isn’t the first time Dhoni has been faced with such a situation. There have been numerous occasions in the past where fans have breached security to run up to him to touch his feet or shake his hands. And each time, Captain Cool has been characteristically calm, seemingly never getting ruffled by such instances.
