Dushyant Singh, son of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, on Thursday sent a legal notice to Times Now naming Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami and Director of Times Group, Vineet Jain, accusing the channel of making “false and defamatory statements” and demanded a retraction.The notice alleges that in the channel’s ‘Newshour’ debate on June 29, Arnab Goswami had said that the property – City Palace of Dholpur, is a government property and the same was wrongly claimed by Singh as his and therefore it should be snatched away by the government.The notice to Times Now says that the channel must take remedial actions within 24 hours of the receipt of the notice by issuing a retraction on 'Newshour', clarifying that the channel had “wrongly stated that the Dholpur palace is not the property of Dushyant Singh”. Failing to do so, Dushyant would sue the channel for Rs 100 crore, the notice stated.If the demands were not complied with, then they would file criminal proceedings against the channel and others as mentioned in the notice under Sections 499,500 and 505 of IPC, the notice added.The notice claims that the statements made by Goswami were factually incorrect and the Palace had been transferred to Singh as a private property by a court in Rajasthan in an order dated May 17, 2007 and the notice even presented supporting documents of a court order transferring the property under Singh’s name.It further stated –“That you also made general defamatory statements against the erstwhile royal families and their present successors, asserting that royals were usurpers and that they dress up as if appearing in fashion show. You had similarly alleged in the programme 'Newshour' that people who are dynasts from political families don't have much intelligence.
