At a raid in Lucknow jail, police officers found a murder accused reading the biography of Dawood Ibrahim “Dongri to Dubai”.

The raid was carried out by the SSP, Lucknow Praveen Kumar who along with other senior officials stayed put in the jail for almost three hours and searched every nook and cornor of jail barracks to check presence of banned products.

“This man, Nitin Sonkar, was reading biography of Dawood. He was so engrossed in reading that book he did not notice our presence in the barrack. And when confronted he said he wanted to know how Dawood ruled the world of crime,” Kumar said.

“We cannot deny that many other jailbirds might have read this book too. They must have praised about Dawood or this book which motivated Nitin Sonkar to read this book,” the police officer said.

No crime related books are allowed in the jails

“What is more surprising that Nitin cannot read English. He was reading the book with the help of dictionary. This shows the motivation in reading that book. This also shows his mindset,” the SSP said.

Nitin Sinkar was sent to jail to 2012 after he killed his cousin in property dispute in Kaiserbagh area of the city.

The book “Dongri to Dubai” charts the life history of Dawood, who entered the dark alleys of crime despite his father was in police. The book is about Dawood as young criminal from Dongri who became the most feared don in India. The book also talks about details of his gang, his first contract killing and Bollywood’s mafia connection.
