Citing the recent success of Coldplay concerts in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, January 28, called for greater investment in infrastructure and skill development to boost India's emerging “concert economy”.
Speaking at the 'Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025' in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, Modi highlighted the "fabulous" reception of Coldplay's performances in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The British rock band's five concerts across these cities, part of their Music of The Spheres World Tour, saw packed venues and enthusiastic crowds.
"A country with such a rich heritage of music, dance and storytelling, combined with a large youth population that actively consumes live entertainment, presents enormous opportunities in the concert economy," Modi said. He noted that the demand for live events has seen a significant uptick over the past decade.
The Prime Minister emphasised the need for state governments and private sector players to focus on developing infrastructure and expertise for large-scale events. As per reports, the global concert economy, which represents the financial ecosystem surrounding live music events, is projected to reach $31 billion by 2026.
Coldplay performed three shows in Mumbai and two in Ahmedabad as part of their world tour.
