Virat Kohli seems to be going from strength to strength. He added yet another feather to his cap on Sunday by notching up his ninth ODI victory on the trot as captain, after beating Australia at Indore.  

He thereby emulated his predecessor MS Dhoni’s record and also put India firmly on top of the ICC ODI rankings table. 

Dhoni had achieved the feat during the period from February 2008 to January 2009. 

Kohli has an enviable record as captain, winning 30 out of 38 matches played in the 50-over format. 

Prior to the Australian series, India had whitewashed Sri Lanka winning 9-0 across all formats.

On the other hand, this was the 11th consecutive ODI loss away from home, for the Steve Smith-led Australian team.

With Sunday’s victory, the Indian team sealed the ongoing five-match ODI series 3-0. 

Not only was this India’s third straight win over the Aussies in the current series, it also completes India’s hattrick of series wins against them in ODIs, while playing at home.

India last lost an ODI in July against the Caribbeans at Antigua on their victorious tour to the West Indies. 

Former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting holds the record for winning maximum number of ODIs consecutively. He won 21 ODIs in a row in 2003.
