The arrest of media tycoon Peter Mukherjea's wife Indrani Mukherjea for the alleged murder of 24-year-old Sheena Bora in 2012 has become murkier, with details emerging that Sheena was Indrani's daughter and not her sister.
Mikhail Bora, Sheena's brother based out of Guwahati, told media outlets that Sheena was his sister and that she and Indrani had differences. However, he refused to divulge the nature of their differences and said that he would have to see where the investigation was headed.
Media tycoon Indrani Mukherjea was arrested by the Mumbai police Monday on the suspicion of having murdered Sheena Bora, whose body has now been identified as the one found in Raigad in 2012. Until now, Indrani has been claiming that Sheena was her sister.
Mikhail said that between 2012 and now, whenever he asked his mother Indrani about Sheena’s whereabouts, the latter would say that Sheena had got a job in the United States where she was working. He said that Sheena and he were close. He said that he had last seen his sister in 2012, when Sheena had come to Guwahati for her friend’s wedding.
Mikhail said that Sheena and he and been brought up by their grandparents and that they had lived in their house in Guwahati until she was in Class 10, after which she went away for higher studies and also lived in Mumbai for her work.
He elaborated that he and Sheena had lived with her grandparents, and Sheena left to Mumbai for her higher studies, later in 2012 she joined Reliance ADAG. Mikhail also alleged that everytime they did something to displease Indrani or asked about Sheena, Indrani would threaten to cut off his monthly allowance. "I have to look after my aged grandparents."
Meanwhile Peter Mukherjea told Smitha Nair of CNN IBN that he had no inkling that Sheena was Indrani’s daughter. “I have met Mikhail and Sheena. They were introduced to me as Indrani’s younger siblings Sheena used to live with us when she was studying in St Xaviers college, she later moved out.”
He also admitted that Sheena and his son Rahul Mukherjea (from another marriage) were in a relationship and Indrani was disapproving of it. “I was told by Indrani that Sheena has shifted to the US. I did not have any further reason to pursue it as I was told her parents shifted her to America”.
“I was under that impression that Sheena’s family wanted her to move as they were not interested in her being in a relationship with my son. In fact my son said there is something fishy, but I did not believe him.”
When asked how he did not know about their relation, Peter Mukerjea said that their conversations were in Assamese and he did not understand the language.
He also claimed that he had not met anyone other than Mikhail and Sheena from his wife’s family, including her parents, in their 15 years of marriage. Mikhail however refused to speak more about Peter Mukherjea's version.
Sheena's friends however told media that they met her last in the end of 2011, and were told by Mikhail that she was in America and later admitted to a mental asylum in Pune.
