Bengaluru man rewarded by Danish government for saving schoolgirls

Written by : TNM

An Indian man from Bengaluru has earned the goodwill of the Danish government after saving a group of schoolgirls from harrassment.

Avner Barak, who is originally from Cooke Town in Bengaluru, was returning home in the evening when he saw an Arab national hurling abuses at and slapping a schoolgirl on the train. On complaining to the train driver regarding the incident, a lady controller confronted the assaulter at the Copenhagen station. But he tried to evade the police and escaped. Barak chased him down and managed to get him arrested by the police.

He has now been awarded by the Danish Railways for his bravery and has received a gift cheque of 250 Danish Kroner (around Rs 2,500).

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle Barak said, “I did what I had to do and what anyone should have done in this situation. It was my teacher’s instinct that made me come to the rescue of this girl and protect her.”
