Bengaluru FC created history at the iconic Kanteerava Stadium in the city in front of its home fans by becoming the first club in the country to play in the finals of the AFC Cup.

BFC will play Iraqi club Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya in the finals in Doha.

The first half was a lackluster display of football despite the two goals. The visitors got an early lead thanks to skipper Safiq, who finished a simple header after Amrinder was undone by a powerful shot from inside the box. Incidentally, Safiq’s effort was cancelled by Chetri with a textbook header, Eugeneson Lyngdoh with the assist.

The equalizer came in a stretch of play when JDT looked reluctant when they had the ball and allowed BFC to operate on the flanks.

The second half started in the same fashion as the first. But this time it was BFC who scored the first goal of the half in the 19th minute. It was the skipper again Sunil Chhetri, who came up with a top finish from outside the box.

Pressing ahead, the third goal came the very next minute for Bengaluru FC and it was scored by Juan Antonio. It was a glancing header off a fine cross from the left flank.

The visitors seemed deflated after conceding the third goal and they just threw in the towel. 

This is yet another proud moment for skipper Sunil Chhetri and other core members of the team which has won two I-league titles.

Coach Albert Roca would be very happy with the way his team stuck to the routine for the majority of the match.
