An entire district has come to a grinding halt to protest the death of a young IAS officer they admired. Officer DK Ravi's death has taken Karnataka by shock, but it is the people of Kolar who are grieving the most. The district has been shut down, schools closed, exams postponed and even highways leading to the district blocked.
36-year-old Ravi, Additional Commissioner Commercial Tax (Enforcement) was found hanging from the ceiling fan at his residence in Bengaluru on Monday. Though police claim that as of now they believe it is a death by suicide, protesters are demanding a probe, as they believe the officer who had taken the land and sand mafia had become an eye sore to many.
Last year, protests had broken out in Kolar over his sudden transfer. Then Deputy Commissioner D K Ravi was transferred as the Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Enforcement), prompting protests in the district.
On a Facebook fan page run by some people from Kolar, DK Ravi's message was posted on January 1, 2015, "Hello dear friends.... I am thinking thinking thinking still thinking how to wish you all differently for the year 2015, but not able to conceptualize the thought process because every seconds...microseconds there is a change nothing but a change in this universe, dynamic law of the nature. so you be the agent of change every moment for the well being of humanity and mankind."
In November 2014 when he took charge in Bengaluru, he left them a message-
"Hello dear friends, I took charge of additional commissioner commercial tax(enforcement), office at Bangalore on 10/11/14. and i would like to thanks the people of Kolar for giving me an opportunity to serve/work for one year and two months. it was indeed great pleasure to work at Kolar and people of Kolar are really humble, innovative, hard worker, progressive thinker, high moral values and self confidence, dynamic, good learner and receptive to change."
