The BBC Hindi's Facebook page published a picture of a Narendra Modi 'figure' that is popular in Spain's north eastern region of Catalonia during Christmas. The figure features Narendra Modi with his pants around his ankles and pooping. Many people commenting on the story have vented their ire asking BBC to take down the picture and condemning Spain.
BBC's story on the figure says it's popular during Christmas and these figures are used as decorations. Apparently, it's not just Modi, but figures of Obama, Marilyn Monroe, Mahatma Gandhi, King Philip are also popular.
A Barcelona tourism website says the figures are called caganers. It describes caganer as, "The Caganer is a feature of the nativity scene that you only see in Cataluña. It is a figure of a Catalan man wearing traditional Catalan clothes. He is squatting with his trousers around his ankles and pooing! This may seem strange, but it is a custom from the 18th Century. His poo is seen as a sign of good luck as it fertilizes the earth and ensures a good harvest for the coming year."
