A new study shows that Muslim women are at the receiving end of their marriage laws and technology has made a bad situation worse.

According to a report in the Times of India, over 90 percent of women responding to questions for a study “unequivocally voiced their dissent against the discriminatory practice of triple talaq.”

The report also said that oral talaq delivered through new media platforms like Skype, text messages, email and Whatsapp had become a cause of “worry for the community.”

A study done by NGO Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan across 10 states, interviewed 470 women, of which an overwhelming 82.1% wanted the practice of triple talaq banned.

The study is the first of its kind. Read full details here.
