An attempt made on the life of another UP-based journalist

Even as Shahjahanpur-based scribe Jagendra Singh’s death remains fresh in memory, a fresh incident of an attempt made on the life of a UP journalist has come into view.According to a report in The Times of India, Haidar Khan from Sherpur Kalan was tied to motorcycles and dragged till he lost consciousness. Singh is a stringer with a TV news channel. The attack on him took place on June 13.Khan says that he had been reporting about the land usurpation by one Arvind Prakash, who Khan says had taken over six acres of land belong to his visually-impaired brother, by force.Khan told the TOI that he received a tip off about a wanted robber being injured in an accident in the nearby village of Bilhari. When he arrived there however, he says that Arvind Prakash and his accomplices attacked him.“A few days ago, Prakash brutally beat up his father to force him to transfer the land to his (Prakash's) name. I had flashed the story, which is why Prakash, who has a criminal background, attempted to kill me,” Khan has alleged.The SHO at the Puranpur Kotwali police station told the newspaper that an FIR had been lodged against 50-year-old Prakash, his son Sudhir, and two other accomplices, Pyare Lal and Tinku.
