Magendiran, a 21-year-old resident of Pudur-Gandhi Nagar village in Thiruvannamalai district in Tamil Nadu, who was killed in an encounter in Chitoor by AP police, was a student of BA Economics at the Tamil Nadu Open University. (TNOU)Family members of Magendiran have in their possession a TNOU ID card of Magendiran. In just two more months, Magendiran would have been an Economics graduate from the open university.Magendiran was also a part time plumber. According to a copy of a company ID card, he worked at Sterling Wilson in Chennai.According to his niece Tamil Selvi, Magendiran was also an aspiring IPS candidate and was training for it. "He was young, only 21-years-old. He had an appendicitis operation recently and was not fit to do heavy lifting work at all. He would not have gone for wood cutting work," she says.Other families in the village who have lost the dear ones to the mass encounter have also said that the men were not wood cutters, and were painters or construction workers.Amidst questions over the credibility of the 'encounter', these emerging facts have further cast a shadow over AP Police's version of events.AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa has questioned the veracity of the claims of the AP police and requested AP CM Chandrababu Naidu to order a probe.
