In a curious case from Moran in Assam, a mother has outperformed her son in the class XII board examinations.According to a report in The New Indian Express, 37-year-old Nayanmoni Bezbaruah outperformed her son by scoring first division in the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council examinations. Bezbaruah was reportedly unhappy though, as her 18-year-old son Ankur secured third division in comparison to her 69.8% overall score. “How can I be happy? I would have relished the success if my son too had done better. We always look up to him for a better living,” Bezbaruah is quoted by the newspaper as saying.The report mentions that the mother-son duo had taken the examinations as regular students.“I shelved my books when I was married off at a very early age. I always wanted to start from where I had left off, but poverty acted as an impediment,” says the woman who used to cycle close to 12 kilometres to school daily.Bezbaruah’ second year fees have been reportedly waived off by the school she was attending and its teachers had coaxed her into giving the class X examinations close to two years ago.“We are all sure that fortunes will smile on us one day through her,” her son Ankur was quoted as saying.Also Read: More fees, more facilities: That's how a Chennai school is discriminating between students
