On the morning of 7 January, unidentified gunmen went on a killing spree at the editorial offices of Charlie Hebdo, a leading French satirical magazine in Paris.

The shooting took the world by storm and became an immediate matter of various debates, with newsrooms across the world calling it an "attack on free speech" and with prominent individuals and groups condemning the attack and expressing their views.
