TM Krishna’s concert in Delhi, organised by the AAP Government, is titled “Awam Ki Awaz” (Voice of the people). This musical evening will be held at Garden of Five Senses, Saidul Ajaib Village in New Delhi on November 17, the same day his AAI-SPIC MACAY concert was scheduled to happen, but was later cancelled.

On Wednesday, news broke that TM Krishna’s Delhi concert, Dance and Music in the Park Festival, was cancelled allegedly due to communal forces who expressed dissent online. Following this, Delhi government reached out to TM Krishna, offering to host his concert on the same date. The concert that will be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is open for all.

The singer is known for his secular views and his concerts have been running into trouble with right wing communal forces ever since he began including non-Hindu religious songs in his Carnatic repertoire. Nagoor Hanifa’s Allavai Naam Tozhudal, a one-line prayer in Hebrew, and Perumal Murugan’s lines set to tune, are some of his concert regulars.

The Magsaysay Award-winning Carnatic musician’s workshop titled ‘Rare Kritis of Sri Muthuswamy Dixitar’, to be held on November 22 and 23 at Gana Bharathi in Mysuru’s Kuvempunagar area, faced opposition and the organisers received threats allegedly from Hindu groups. The organisers, however, are determined to go ahead with the event in spite of the threats. “We do not have to comply with everyone’s wishes and if people have an issue, they can choose not to attend the event,” said CR Himanshu, one of the organisers of the event.

In August this year, a temple in Maryland had called off his concert scheduled to take place in September, following which a group of music enthusiasts helped organise his concert on that same date in Georgetown University, Washington.
