In the recent Adoor rape case, where eight people were arrested by the police for allegedly raping two minor schoolgirls, most of the accused are reportedly the youth wing workers of major political parties.

One of the accused Ratheesh(24), was the youth congress area secretary of Kulashekharam, Kollam. Four others viz. Harilal, Shyamraj, Sharath and Vishnu, all aged 20, are reportedly the workers of Democratic Youth Federation of India {CPI(M)’s youth wing}.

Rajkumar(24), Pramod(24) and Kannan(19) were the others arrested.

Earlier, following allegations that the case enquiry was biased due to the political connections of the accused, Adoor DySP Naseem was transferred and DySP Jayakumar took over the investigation.

“Some of them had some political connections, but that has not affected the enquiry. We are in search of two more, who were in the car, in which the girls were dropped back home,” a police officer seeking anonymity told The News Minute.

Two girls of Class 9 and 10 respectively, were allegedly raped by the group on December 4 and 5 in Karunagapally.

As per the police, one of the victims was in a relationship with the accused Vishnu and that is how he trapped them.

The accused brought the girls to a house, tied their legs and hands and sexually assaulted them. Apart from threatening the victims to not inform anyone about the incident, the culprits also asked the girls to later bring their friends to meet them. Some of the accused had close relations with the victims' families and that is how they managed to bring the victims to their house.
