On World Environment Day Malayalam star Mammootty becomes Mammutree

Written by : TNM Staff

On the occasion of World Environment Day, ministers and activists put up the customary posts on social media urging one and all to plant a sapling or two.

Malayalam actor Mammootty has, however, decided to branch out. In order to get the message of protecting the environment across, the star changed his profile and cover photo on Facebook to a poster created by Sabareesh Ravi – ‘Mammutree’.

Set against a green background, the actor’s face has been portrayed in the image of a tree. Mammootty’s trademark moustache has been transformed into the root of the tree, the bridge of his nose goes onto form the trunk which branches out to leaves, that make up the star’s hair.

In 2014, Mammootty taking inspiration from the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge started a campaign called ‘My Tree Challenge.’

Not only did he begin to plant trees himself, but he also ‘challenged’ other actors to do so. According to reports, Mammootty had challenged Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and Tamil star Suriya to take up the campaign.

Speaking to The News Minute, Sabareesh Ravi from Kochi who designed the poster in 2014 said that the attempt was to use art to create social awareness. “I felt it was a unique idea to combine the actor and an activity he has done, and so the poster was created. On Sunday, on the occasion of Environment Day, I reposted it and Mammootty also shared it,” he added.
