Even though son Binoy Kodiyeri has been granted bail by the Mumbai Dindoshi sessions court in a rape case, CPI(M) State secretary of Kerala Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that he will not interfere in the case.

Speaking to the press in Kerala, Kodiyeri said that he will let the case move legally and not attempt to protect Binoy.

The CPI(M) veteran had maintained this stance ever since Binoy’s case had come out in the public. He himself or the party cannot shoulder the burden of offences committed by family members was what he had said last week too. He had added that no measures would be taken to protect Binoy.

Binoy’s bail conditions include payment of a security deposit of Rs 25,000 for one month. Every Monday, he has to appear at the police station and also undergo a DNA test by handing over blood samples if the police demands. He is also forbidden from attempting to influence any witness in the case.

Binoy has been booked under IPC sections 376 (rape) and section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property on the complaint). He has been absconding since the case came to light.

The complainant, a woman based in Oshiwara, Mumbai, and originally from Bihar, stated that Binoy had raped her for years on the pretext of promising marriage. The woman also alleged that she had an 8-year-old son from her relationship with Binoy Kodiyeri.

Following the case, Kodiyeri even clarified that he had not approached  the complainant with any settlement in the case. He however accepted that his wife had gone to Mumbai after news of the case broke.

“We came to know about the incident when we got a notice regarding this in January. Following this, being a mother, my wife Vinodhini went to Mumbai to inquire about the issue,” Kodiyeri had said.
