Will Akshara win her battle? College given time till Thursday to take back HIV positive student

Over a month after she was forced to stop going to college on account of her HIV positive status, Akshara says she can go back later this week.

Akshara told The News Minute on Monday that District Collector P Bala Kiran had informed her that she could go back to college on Thursday. College authorities had sought time until Thursday to talk to the students and their parents sensitize them to Akshara's condition, he said.

No one from the college had contacted her though, to inform her about this decision, she said.

On January 28, Akshara stopped going to college has she had been asked to vacate the college hostel and move into an institution for elderly and mentally challenged people. Going to college as a day scholar is a four-hour journey from her house in Kannur.

On January 26, two of her lecturers visited her college, telling her that two of her hostel mates had left because of her. However, the persons in question did not behave differently with her, Akshara said. College authorities
