Vinod Rai debunks royal family's claim, says mysterious Vault B of Padmanabha Swamy temple has been opened many times

The News Minute|August 12, 2014| 6.30 pm ISTFormer Comptroller Auditor General of India Vinod Rai has submitted his first report after initial audit of the wealth of the famous Padmanabhaswamy Temple of Kerala.The Supreme Court had asked Vinod Rai to conduct an audit of the temple's accounts for the past quarter of century following a report by amicus curie Gopal Subramaniam that the temple’s accounts were badly maintained and many gold and silver offerings made by devotees were not accounted for.Vinod Rai’s report that Malayalam channel Asianet has a copy of is more or less in tandem with Gopal Subramaniam’s report and maintains that the temple’s accounts were not properly maintained.Vinod Rai notes that the mysterious Vault B of the temple has been opened many times in the past, twice in 1996 and four times in 2002.Though 5 vaults in the temple have been opened, one vault- the secret vault b has been unopened till now. The royal family of Travancore that was managing the temple for centuries had asked the court many times that Vault B should not be opened as that would unleash God’s wrath.But Vinod Rai’s finding that the Vault B of the temple has been opened many times in the past, completely debunks the Royal family’s claim till now.Read- Myths, beliefs and superstitions about Vault B of Padmanabha Swamy templeThe report also says that some of the gold and silver ornaments owned by the temple need to be checked again to verify its purity. Vinod Rai has said that he has given 72 audit notes to the temple authorities for further clarification.
