Director Rajesh Pillai is reportedly on ventilator support in a private hospital in Kochi. His latest Malayalam movie “Vettah” hit the screens on Friday.

Diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, Rajesh had to be rushed to hospital following a sudden decline in health and is currently awaiting a liver transplant at the PVS hospital in Ernakulam.

Reports say that Rajesh had to be hospitalized several times in the course of “Vettah’ shooting and had contracted pneumonia while the movie was in the final sound mixing stage.

Rajesh had shot to fame with his second movie “Traffic’ which went on to be a blockbuster in Kerala and was remade into other South Indian languages too.

"Vettah" lead Manju Warrier said in her post on Facebook: "Everyone seems to have only good things to say about "Vettah". All the credit goes to Rajesh Pillai. May all the good wishes pouring in turn into prayers for his speedy recovery. The movie's resounding success surely awaits him when discharged from hospital. May Rajesh add yet another feather in his cap with "Vettah" being tagged the best psycho-thriller in Malayalam filmdom."
