Two girls drown to death in a quarry in Kerala, one missing

Two minor girls died on Sunday after drowning in a quarry in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram district.

The incident happened on Sunday evening, at a quarry in Njarayilokonam, in rural Thiruvananthapuram, under Pallickal police station limits. Five girls, cousins aged between 14 and 17, had gone to the quarry to take a bath. According to the police, two of the girls managed to save themselves, while the rest of them were trapped.

After the two girls who saved themselves informed people nearby, police and fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot.

Bodies of two girls were then recovered. Search is on for the third girl.

Attingal DySP, who is currently at the spot, told TNM that the police have identified all the girls.

"They live near the quarry and are daughters of two brothers. They had come to take a bath, when some of them drowned," the police official said.

The bodies that were recovered have been sent to Parippally hospital.
