CPI(M) leader TP Dasan was on Saturday appointed as Kerala State Sports Council President.

Earlier there were reports, which stated that he was likely to be appointed to the post.

His appointment comes exactly a month after athlete Anju Bobby George’s controversial exit as president, alleging mistreatment by Sports Minister EP Jayarajan.

She also alleged misappropriation within the council, leading to her resignation, along with 12 other members.

According to reports, Dasan had been the Sports Council President during the previous LDF rule and had faced major allegations with regard to sports lottery scheme. However, he refuted the allegations terming them as“baseless”.

Days before Anju Bobby George quit from the council, Dasan had accused her of being corrupt, alleging that she had appointed her brother to a high position despite him not being qualified for the post.

Reports say that former athlete Mercy Kuttan has been appointed the Vice-President. Other members of the council are M R Ranjith, K C Lekha, George Thomas, I T Manoj, O K Vineeth, D Vijayakumar, and S Rajeev.
