This is not a statement by an NGO working for women's safety or a woman resident of the city who has been a victim of harassment. The statement came from none other than the city's Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ajitha Beegum.Relassing a mobile app to help women by NGO Sakhi, the DCP told the gathering that Thiruvananthapuram could not be called a city safe for women. Asianet News reported that Ajitha Beegum said that the police force that has not yet filled almost 70 Sub Inspector posts lying vacant in the city, is compelled to give 380 policemen to provide security for VIPs and the city."There are very less women who will dare to walk in Thiruvananthapuram post 8 pm," Ajitha Beegum said.She then narrated an incident when she herself felt scared as she walked through the Bakery Junction in the city in the night.
