India’s first ever, artistic medical expo Medex, which began on January 3 in Thiruvananthapuram Medical college has seen about 1.5 lakh visitors in less than a month.

Medex has original, virtual presentations of the human body along with a display of live surgeries. Art and Medicine come together at the expo that showcases about 1000 exhibits.

According to the organisers, more than one crore rupees was collected from the expo which would be used for the development of the medical college.

The expo, which was supposed end on January 31 has been extended upto February 13, due to the huge rush of visitors.

Set up in two lakh square feet area, it exhibits pathological variants, original specimens of diseases, animation and videos, medical illustrations and posters, virtual and augmented reality shows, mega walk-ins and interactive learning devices, which makes it one of the biggest medical carnivals in the country.

Reproductions of Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘The Starry Night,’ ‘Wheatfield with Crows,’ and ‘Irises’, to explain how mental illness influences an artist, Salvador Dali’s renowned ‘The Persistence of Memory’ explaining sleep, Michelangelo’s ‘The Creation of Adam’ and many more artistic medical combinations have been exhibited at Medex.  

Representations explaining surgeries, human organ systems, operation theatres, transplantation units, forensic scenes, cells and genetics were also impressive.

The experience of watching live surgeries also makes the expo unique.
