The News Minute | June 27, 2014 | 4:01 PM IST The Malappuram municipality is aspiring to have a free wifi zone. The proposal for WiFi project, to be launched with the support of BSNL,  has already been presented in the municipal budget for the year 2014-2015 on Thursday.BSNL is expected to submit a draft plan on the project before June 30. The project will provide free wifi to the most populated areas of the municipality, during the first phase. The authorities said the project will be complete by March 2015. The municipality offices and premises will start getting free wifi connectivity from July. The proposal certainly should make officials of the more developed cities of Kerala, like Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi to buck up.Another initiative is the Geographic Information System (GIS) aimed at providing information on the municipality like water availability, firms, buildings and the like. Reports suggest that the municipality also will get an FM radio station this year with private partnership.
