In a scene that could’ve been lifted straight from a slapstick film he might star in, actor Shine Tom Chacko — currently facing allegations of drug use on film sets — reportedly fled the scene during a police raid at a Kochi hotel.

CCTV footage aired by TV channels showed Shine and two companions making a dramatic escape from the third floor — through a window, no less. Shine is reported to have jumped from the third floor to the second, then into the swimming pool, before dashing down the stairs toward the reception.

The raid was conducted around midnight on Wednesday, April 16, by the Kerala police’s District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF), a squad dedicated to anti-narcotics enforcement. The team found no illegal substances in Shine’s room.

As per reports, the actor is currently absconding and will be questioned once located.

The incident comes shortly after actor Vincy Aloshious publicly stated that she would not work with co-actors who use drugs on sets. She later filed a complaint with the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (A.M.M.A.) and the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce, regarding drug use by a co-actor. In an instagram video, Vincy also alleged that the actor had misbehaved with her on set, although she refrained from publicly naming the individual in question. A.M.M.A. office bearers, however, told the media that the accused actor is Shine, who shares screen space with Vincy in the upcoming film Soothravakyam.

Meanwhile, Shine’s mother, Maria, told the media that her son may have fled out of fear. “Did they (the DANSAF team) find anything in his room? I know him well. He might have been frightened. The police were not in uniform,” Maria told Mathrubhumi News.

Shine, known for his roles in films such as Unda, Thallumaala, and Bheeshma Parvam, was previously arrested in 2015 for allegedly possessing drugs. In February 2025, Shine, along with all the other accused, were acquitted by the Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court. The court, however, criticised the police for procedural lapses during the arrest which led to the acquittal.
