Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan is all set to team up with Malayalam filmmaker Aashiq Abu and scriptwriter Syam Pushkaran in the duo’s first Hindi movie. The initial discussions of the much-anticipated action-drama movie were held at Shah Rukh's residence, ‘Mannat’, in Mumbai.
Aashiq Abu, on Thursday, had shared pictures of them meeting the ‘King Khan’ at his residence, on social media. As per reports, Shah Rukh Khan invited Aashiq Abu to his residence after watching Aashiq’s medical thriller Virus. The film was on the emergence of deadly Nipah virus in Kerala and the state’s battle to combat it.
“There had been discussions about doing a Hindi film with Shah Rukh Khan for a while. On Wednesday, after he returned from the United States, we met him at his residence and spoke for about two-and-a-half hours,” Aashiq Abu told The Cue.
The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer action-drama film will be Aashiq Abu’s Bollywood debut. The movie, scripted by Syam Pushkaran, is set to go to floors by 2020 end.
Aashiq Abu has also reportedly said that his Bollywood movie will not be a remake of any Malayalam movies. As per reports, Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment film company will be producing the film. Aashiq is also reported to have said that Shah Rukh Khan closely watches Malayalam movies.
The collaboration between Aashiq Abu and Syam Pushkaran, as a filmmaker-script writer, has given the Malayalam film industry some remarkable movies such as Mayanadhi and 22 Female Kottayam.
The duo has been known for their progressive and feminist perspectives, which reflects both in their collaborations and independent works. Both Syam Pushkaran and Aashiq Abu have stood against the rampant misogyny in Malayalam film industry. When ‘Me Too’ allegations began surfacing, they had openly declared their support to the survivors. Syam Pushkaran had even openly slammed one of the actors accused of sexual misconduct although the two worked together in movies.
