RSS worker killed, another injured in Kannur

The News Minute | September 1, 2014 | 7.13 pm ISTAn RSS district leader was killed and another injured in Kannur, Kerala on Monday. The two were assaulted allegedly by Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers, after their car was bombed. (minor explosion reported) The BJP and RSS have called for a state-wide shut-down, in protest.According to a report published by The Hindu, The deceased has been identified as Ilanthottathil Manoj, 42 and K. Pramod, 35, who injured,has been hospitalised.The pair were travelling in a Maruti Omni van, when assailants threw country made bombs at the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and hit a wall. After this, the assailants then stabbed the two RSS workers. Although they were taken to a hospital in Thallassery, Manoj was declared brought dead.On August 17, a Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh worker, Suresh Kumar, 44, was killed in an attack by alleged CPI(M) workers. The region has witnessed political violence in the past, with attacks and counter-attacks.Taluks of Manjeshwaram and Kasargode have been exempted from the hartal, as Ganeshotsavam is celebrated in these areas.
