The two were assaulted allegedly by Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers, after their car was bombed. (minor explosion reported) The BJP and RSS have called for a state-wide shut-down, in protest.According to a report published by The Hindu, The deceased has been identified as Ilanthottathil Manoj, 42 and K. Pramod, 35, who injured,has been hospitalised.The pair were travelling in a Maruti Omni van, when assailants threw country made bombs at the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and hit a wall. After this, the assailants then stabbed the two RSS workers. Although they were taken to a hospital in Thallassery, Manoj was declared brought dead.On August 17, a Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh worker, Suresh Kumar, 44, was killed in an attack by alleged CPI(M) workers. The region has witnessed political violence in the past, with attacks and counter-attacks.Taluks of Manjeshwaram and Kasargode have been exempted from the hartal, as Ganeshotsavam is celebrated in these areas.
