Pedestrians who use mobile phones while crossing roads to be fined in Kerala

The News Minute | September 14, 2014 | 8:50 am ISTPedestrians who use their mobile phones while crossing roads in Kozhikode district of Kerala will be fined Rs. 200 from today. Seeing the rise in accidents while crossing roads because of the lack of concentration on the part of pedestrians, the city police has said that it will fine those who use mobile phones while crossing. Not just calls, even if the pedestrians are seen looking at the screens of their mobile phones they are going to be fined, reports Malayalam daily Manorama. The city police commissioner has said that there will be policemen on duty in casual dress near major road junctions to catch hold of erring pedestrians. The traffic police has also been given powers to fine.
