The mass wedding in October 2014 organised by Kerala Congress (M) and headed by former Finance Minister KM Mani, where 101 couples got married, had hit the headlines.

But now, the Vigilance special court in Thiruvananthapuram has ordered a preliminary inquiry against Mani on a complaint that the mass wedding in Kottayam was done with illegal money.

The court order was given on a complaint by Payichira Navas, a Thiruvananthapuram resident.

The wedding event was organised as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Kerala Congress (M). As per the complaint, around Rs 4 crore was spent for the event and it said that the source of the money should be traced.

As per The Times of India report, Mani has reacted and said that if corruption allegations are levelled against initiatives like mass weddings, then no political party or organization would take up any such initiative in the future.

Besides this, Mani has been facing other Vigilance enquiries too. On August 2, the Vigilance had filed an FIR against KM Mani in the bar bribery case and another FIR was filed on August 31 for tax evasion.
