The LDF government in Kerala has issued an order that has denied the CBI rent-free structures, to help in the latter's probe of murder cases in the state where CPM workers are the chief accused.

Times of India reported that the order was issued on July 28, and states that the CBI has to pay up for all the state government's facilities it used from August 14.

"The government order says we will not be provided `free' accommodation.But that is a misnomer, as we have not asked for free accommodation. All we had been demanding is facility to open a camp office at the local area where our investigation is focussed since we need security as well as the facility for the witnesses to come and give us statements," TOI quotes a CBI source as saying.

Manorama reported:

Currently, several teams of CBI officials who are involved in the investigation of cases pertaining to political murders and corruption are being accommodated in PWD rest houses in different parts of the State. Now, they will have to pay rent to extend their stay.

The report adds that the CBI is likely to approach the high court as the GO violates the court's orders to provide assistance to the central agency in the probe.
