The condition of the 23-year-old Ernakulam resident affected with Nipah is improving. As per the latest update, it was reported on Tuesday that the patient was having no fever for the past 48 hours.

The patient is continuing to walk without any aid and has normal sleep and intake of food, stated the heath bulletin released by the district administration.

At the same time, experts in the field are continuing the quest to find out source of the Nipah outbreak. Samples of bats were collected on Tuesday from Aluva palace surroundings in Ernakulam district. The expert team has been taking samples of fruit eating bats in some areas over the past few days. Sample collection is over in a few places in Idukki district including Thodupuzha where the patient was pursuing his engineering course. 

According to officials, the expert team will travel on Wednesday to North Paravur in Ernakulam, the native town of the patient, to collect samples.

The seven people who have been isolated at Kalamasserry Medical College also continue to be in stable condition. Out of the total people who are in isolation, one has been shifted to ward section of the hospital while another has been shifted to ICU, the health bulletin said.

Meanwhile, an Alappuzha native, who was one among the persons in the contact list of the patient, has been admitted to the isolation ward in Alappuzha Medical College with fever.

Awareness classes on Nipah are being carried out actively by the local bodies in the district. As part of creating awareness about Nipah to the migrant labourers in the district, the district administration has made videos in vernacular languages of the workers like Bengali. Officials have also started circulating awareness pamphlets about Nipah among the migrant labourers. These pamphlets are also prepared in vernacular languages.
