Nalini Netto was sworn in as the Chief Secretary of Kerala on Sunday.

Nalini Netto told reporters that she will continue working with 100% sincerity and hard work. "There won't be any change in my working style; it would be with sincerity and hard work," she said. The 1981 batch IAS officer has been elevated to the post after SM Vijayanand attained superannuation on March 31. Being the senior most IAS officer, Netto was the natural choice to succeed Vijayanand, when his tenure came to an end.

She has been serving as the Additional Chief Secretary of Home and Vigilance and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister before being elevated to the top bureaucratic post in the state. On March 30, former DGP TP Senkumar informed the Supreme Court that Nalini Netto, who was the Home Secretary during the Puttingal fireworks tragedy last year, should also be held responsible for the incident. Senkumar, who was removed as DGP in May 2016, alleged that if he is held responsible for the Puttingal fireworks accident, which killed 111 people and left over 300 injured, Nalini should also be held responsible.

A complaint was filed recently at the anti-corruption court in Thiruvananthapuram, accusing Nalini Netto of misusing her powers to remove TP Senkumar from the post of DGP of the state. She was serving as the Chief Electoral Officer for the state before she was appointed to the post of Additional Chief Secretary in 2014. She was the first woman Chief Electoral Officer of Kerala. The officer has served as Tourism Secretary, Irrigation Secretary, and was also the District Collector of Thiruvananthapuram.
