A luxury hotel in Thrissur district has suddenly become the talk of the town after five policemen stopped by on Tuesday with murder accused business tycoon Mohammed Nisham. The police were on their way to the Thrissur District Court from Kannur Central jail, when they stopped by the Raadhal hotel and restaurant. “They reached the restaurant around 12.30 in the afternoon, and ordered chicken and mutton biriyani. Nisham was talking to some people who joined them in the table,” the manager of the restaurant told The News Minute. According to the hotel manager, the staff were not aware that the policemen had brought the notorious businessman along with them until a few cameramen perched themselves on a rooftop next to the hotel building. Nisham was allowed to speak to his relatives, according to an investigation report prepared by Permangalam Circle Inspector Biju. Special Public Prosecutor CP Udhayabanu has complained to the court that Nisham had violated rules by meeting relatives during his detention. On Wednesday, the Kerala police suspended all five police officers. Nisham, a beedi tycoon, has been charged with IPC 302 for the murder of Chandrabose, a security guard at a posh apartment in Thrissur in January this year. Nisham had allegedly mowed down Chandrabose with his Hummer when the security guard failed to open the gate promptly. This is not the first time that Kerala police has come under fire for being unabashed in breaking rules and codes of conduct. In June last year, five policemen were suspended from service for buying liquor for Muhammed Shafi, an accused in the murder of rebel CPI (M) leader T P Chandrasekharan, while taking him from Viyyur jail to a Thalassery court. Prior to that, in December 2013, news channels had reported how several of the accused in Chandrsekharan’s murder case were using mobile phones to click their pictures in Kozhikode jail and were uploading on Facebook.
