Muslim league leader dumps garbage on national highway, villagers force him to clean up

The News Minute | December 3, 2014, 11.36 am ISTWhen an IUML leader in Kerala thought it would be “ok” to dump a load of garbage on the National Highway, the local residents of the area decided to react and make him clean up the place.The incident occurred in Cheruvathur, a small town in Kasargod. MA Majid, the IUML member and Secretary of the Peelicode Panchayat committee disposed off all the garbage from a marriage feast that took place in his house on Sunday on the highway. The garbage included remnants of mutton biriyani, disposable plates and cups. A report that appeared on the Malayalam news channel Mathrubhumi’s site says that it was dumped on the early hours of Monday morning.The residents in the area decided to find who was behind disposing the garbage, and were able to link it back to Majid with the help of some receipts that was found among the waste. An agitated crowd marched to Majid’s house demanding that he and his friends should clear up the waste. Soon enough the leader and his supporters reached the spot- Not only did they clean up the mess, but they also disinfected the place by sprinkling lime.The report also says that the locals tried to manhandle Majid, but the police made sure that he was safe. The angry mob also made sure that a case was slapped against Majid and his accomplices.
