The News Minute | June 9, 2014 | 7:59 AM IST As the state assembly is heading to discuss the Mullaperiya issue on the wake of the Supreme Court's judgement rejecting Kerala's stand that it is unsafe Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday said that his government was concerned about the safety of people in his state and was not against giving water to Tamil Nadu per say."We are concerned about the safety of our people. I have always said publicly that we are not against giving water to Tamil Nadu. We are for it. We are only requesting water for Tamil Nadu and safety for Kerala people," Chandy said to the media. When media questioned him on the alleged blocking of water from the Siruvani river, the river which provides drinking water to Coimbatore city he opined that everything will be settled through talks. Opposition leader in the House V S Achuthanandan on Monday is expected to move a resolution on the new situation because of the Supreme Court ruling. On May 7 the Supreme Court struck down the state's claim that Mullaperiyar dam is weak and may collapse if more water is filled.
