Mother-son duo attacked in Kerala by moral police for travelling late night

Written by : TNM Staff

In a case of reported moral policing, a mother-son duo were allegedly beaten up in Kerala's Kozhikode district near Chevayur on Monday night.

The incident occurred when Kalamandalam Sheeba, an art teacher, and her son Jishnu were returning after watching a performance in the district's Thalikshetram temple.

On their way home, they decided to stop at a restaurant to eat food. While eating, they alleged that a few men in the next table kept staring at them, and followed them on the bike for a short distance before stopping and thrashing them up.

Sheeba told the media that the attackers claimed to be unafraid and even said that this was what they did. "Dont threaten us. This is what we do. We've spent time in jail," she quoted the attackers as saying.

Sheeba managed to write down the number of the bike and file a police complaint, following which five men have been arrested.

The arrest have been identified as Shamil Aneesh, Subish Surendran, Muhammed Sinoj, Aasif Aziz, Jafar Hassan.

Further investigation is still on.
