Even as controversy over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks of comparing Kerala to Somalia continued,  State home minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that Modi should visit Kerala more, as it would benefit the other parties.

In an interview to The New Indian Express, he said:

The visit of so many Union Ministers was not appropriate. Let Modi come here more often (laughs). His remarks (like equating Kerala with Somalia) will only help the UDF. His comments against Sonia Gandhi has backfired on the BJP. The speeches of Modi have become counter-productive.

Speaking on the Jisha case, he said that "I would blame the media for creating obstacles for the police through constant interference and sensational reportage. There were no lapses on the part of the police."

He also expressed confidence that the UDF would have a comfortable majority in the polls.

When asked about the possibilities of chief ministerial candidates, he said "The Congress high command will decide. It could be anyone."
